🚧 $7 Million in Play for Morse Boulevard?

A significant road funding discussion is unfolding in Sumter County — and it could impact future improvements along Morse Boulevard, north of 466 to Hwy 441.

County officials are exploring whether roughly $7 million currently controlled by the Amenity Authority Committee** could be used to address ongoing traffic flow and safety concerns. The money reportedly stems from a past settlement fund — not regular amenity fees — which may allow more flexibility in how it’s used.

Why this matters: Morse Boulevard carries a heavy mix of vehicles, golf carts, and pedestrians, and safety concerns have been raised for years. Commissioner Deb Butterfield has publicly indicated this could be a rare opportunity to fund meaningful upgrades without tapping traditional county road dollars.

Nothing has been approved yet. The AAC would ultimately need to agree to any redirection of funds, and discussions are expected to continue at upcoming workshops.

If approved, this could shape how major infrastructure priorities are handled in The Villages moving forward.
