Plus: New construction near Eastport and a sleep tip Florida was made for
Happy Monday, Villagers. Hurricane season is already here β and most of us have the coverage but not the clarity. Inside today's poll, we're asking about something your insurance agent probably mentioned once and you haven't thought about since: your hurricane deductible. Also inside: a brand-new cottage near Eastport for under $325K, and the easiest sleep upgrade in Florida.

ποΈ On this day in 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the G.I. Bill β officially the Servicemen's Readjustment Act β into law. It provided veterans returning from World War II with college tuition, low-cost mortgages, and unemployment benefits, and is widely credited with building the American middle class. If you or someone you love benefited from it, today's the anniversary.

Poll of The Week
π Hurricane season doesn't knock before it enters β but your deductible will.
Most Villages homeowners have hurricane coverage baked into their policy. But here's the thing: that "2%" or "5%" on your declarations page isn't a small number. On a $350,000 home, the difference between those two options is $10,500 out of your pocket before insurance pays a cent.
A reader suggested we ask β and we think they're onto something. Do you know what your hurricane deductible actually is? Let's find out where The Villages stands.

βοΈ Why Morning Sunlight Might Be the Best Sleep Fix You're Not Using
You live in Florida. The sun is literally right outside. And it might be the most powerful sleep tool you're ignoring.
Here's the thing most people don't realize: your body doesn't just need darkness to sleep well at night β it needs light at the right time in the morning. Specifically, your eyes need natural sunlight within the first hour of waking to set your internal clock for the day.
That internal clock β your circadian rhythm β controls when you feel alert, when melatonin kicks in, and when you naturally get sleepy. Morning light tells your brain it's daytime, which triggers a cortisol boost for alertness and schedules melatonin release for later that evening. Skip the morning light, and the whole timing gets fuzzy.
As we age, this rhythm naturally drifts earlier β which is why many of us are ready for bed at 8pm and wide awake at 4am. Morning sunlight helps anchor the clock and keep it consistent.
The fix is almost embarrassingly simple:
βοΈ Step outside within 30β60 minutes of waking β even on cloudy days
π Skip the sunglasses (glasses and contacts are fine β just no dark lenses)
β±οΈ 10β15 minutes is enough to make a real difference
π΅ Don't try to do this through a window β glass filters out the key wavelengths
π‘ Can't get outside? A 10,000-lux light therapy box works as a backup
You're already living in one of the sunniest places in the country. Might as well let it work for you.
