We asked how Villagers handle backup electricity, and nearly 200 readers (197) made it clear: no backup, no worries. Another 46 said they don’t have anything yet but are actively shopping. Meanwhile, 39 respondents rely on a portable generator and some extension cords, and 23 households have already gone all-in with a whole-home standby system.

And what do folks really think about outages? The comments say it all. Some insist power loss is rare and not worth the fuss. Others are window-shopping everything from portables to pricey standby setups. A few readers sounded downright smug about their generators humming away while neighbors sat in the dark. In classic Villages fashion, it’s a mix of “meh, not my problem” and “bring on the next storm, I’m ready.”
