📅 On this day in 1837: Michigan became the 26th U.S. state after a long dispute over borders and land rights. It earned the nickname “The Wolverine State” not for the animal — but for how fiercely it fought for territory.

Poll of The Week
Rolling with the cart theme once again. Around here, your golf cart is basically your calling card, so what’s your cart personality?

Villages History
🛣️ The Roads That Changed Everything
Part 3: Meggison, Warm Springs, and Planning Ahead
If earlier roads reacted to growth, Meggison Road and Warm Springs Avenue were built expecting it.
These corridors weren’t afterthoughts. They were designed wide, clean, and cart-friendly from day one — a clear signal that The Villages was planning far beyond the present.
Meggison Road helped relieve pressure on older north–south routes, quietly improving daily traffic flow as southern villages came online. Warm Springs Avenue, meanwhile, became a critical east–west connector for newer development, making it easier to move between neighborhoods, recreation centers, and commercial areas without relying on already-busy roads.
The result wasn’t just smoother driving. It changed behavior. New villages felt accessible immediately. Daily trips required less planning and fewer detours.
That’s the hidden power of smart road design. You don’t have to tell people where to go — you simply make it easy.
As The Villages continues to expand, future roads will follow the same playbook: anticipate growth, reduce friction, and shape daily life in ways most residents barely notice.

🌿 Villages Walk of the Week
🚶♂️ Walk of the Week: Colony Cottage Pathway
📍 510 Colony Blvd
This quiet, no-frills pathway is a Villages classic — smooth pavement, minimal traffic crossings, and just enough shade to keep things comfortable. It’s an easy, flat loop that works whether you’re out for a casual stroll, pushing the pace for fitness, or sneaking in a post-dinner walk. Bonus points for how well it connects to nearby neighborhoods, making it feel more like a local shortcut than a “designed” path. Simple, safe, and reliable — sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

🩺 Screening Spotlight
Sponsored By Life Line Screening
Villages Pulse Reader Elizabeth shared this with me recently: “I did not see your poll on carotid artery screening but everyone should do it. I did and it saved my life. I had 97% blockage. Just saying it can make all difference. That was in 2013!!!”

🩺 Lipid Panel (Cholesterol & Triglycerides)
A lipid panel measures total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides to help assess your risk for heart disease and stroke. Elevated LDL and triglycerides are linked to plaque buildup in arteries, while HDL helps carry cholesterol out of the bloodstream. It’s a quick blood test that provides a clear snapshot of your cardiovascular risk. Something your primary care should check every year.

✈️ Travel Hack: Skip the Checked Bag
Compression packing cubes are having a moment — and for good reason. These zip-down cubes squeeze the air out of your clothes, letting you fit way more into a carry-on than you think is possible. Less bulk, better organization, and no checked-bag fees or baggage claim waits.
Why it matters: Faster airport exits, fewer lost-bag headaches, and easier weekend or cruise add-on trips. Once you use them, you won’t go back.
Buying tip: Look for compression cubes with double zippers and breathable fabric — they compress better, don’t tear, and won’t trap odors on longer trips. This is the most popular one:
